AI Post-Production: Upscaling, Editing & Grade
Generative video produces shots, not deliverables. Post is where mismatched, sub-4K renders become a coherent film. Here is the finishing workflow we use, tool by tool.
Every AI film is made in post. Generative models hand you a pile of short, sub-4K clips with mismatched color and the occasional artifact — raw material, not a movie. The finishing stage is what turns that pile into something deliverable, and it is also where AI tooling quietly does some of its most useful work, from transcript-based editing to neural upscaling.
The post-production bottleneck
Two problems dominate finishing AI footage: assembly speed and consistency. Cutting many short clips by hand is slow, and clips generated from different models and prompts never match out of the box. This workflow attacks both — fast text-based editing for assembly, and a disciplined upscale-and-grade pass for consistency.
The six-step finishing workflow

Edit on the transcript with Descript
Import your rough cut into Descript and edit the timeline by editing text. Deleting a sentence deletes the footage; removing filler words ("um," "uh") is a one-click pass. For dialogue-driven cuts this is widely regarded as the fastest assembly method available.

Isolate subjects with neural masking
Use DaVinci Resolve's Magic Mask to track and isolate a subject without manual rotoscoping. This unlocks targeted color, selective sharpening, and VFX compositing on AI footage that would otherwise be impossible to grade separately.

Upscale low-res renders with Topaz
Generative video tops out below 4K, so finish in Topaz Video AI. Use it to upscale to 4K and interpolate frames for smoother motion. Test models per clip — the right model depends on the source artifacts.

Clean and align the audio
Run a noise-reduction and de-reverb pass, then align synthetic VO and SFX to picture. Descript's Studio Sound and Resolve's Fairlight both handle the cleanup; match room tone so cuts feel continuous.

Grade for a unified look
AI clips from different models and prompts arrive with mismatched color. A single grading pass — matched white balance, a shared LUT, film-grain overlay — is what binds disparate renders into one coherent film.

Export social variants
For distribution cutdowns and captioned social versions, push the master through Pictory for fast, captioned reframes rather than re-editing by hand.
Transcript editing changes the assembly game
For any dialogue- or VO-driven piece, editing the transcript instead of the timeline is the single biggest speed gain in modern post. Delete a sentence, delete the footage; strip filler words across the whole cut in one pass. Upscaling AI video to deliverable resolution
Because no current generative model outputs native 4K, a dedicated upscaler is not optional — it is part of the pipeline.
